As a result of our continued success and growth in the UK, we’re looking for full time Senior Structural Engineers to join our team working on Nuclear New Build projects, specifically focusing on Nuclear Island buildings of Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and similar projects. You will enjoy reinforcing your technical skills when working on the most complex buildings of a Nuclear Power Plant, cultivating strong working relationships on a multi-culture environment to deliver outstanding results for our clients. 

Job description

As a Structural Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, integrity, and reliability of the nuclear power plant structures. You will be responsible for various aspects of the design and structural analysis of reinforced concrete or steel structures.    

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for the Nuclear Island Buildings of EPR nuclear power plants,
  • Perform structural calculations and Finite Element modelling using ANSYS APDL or similar advanced software and tools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards such as Eurocode, ETC-C related to .
  • Ensure the structural integrity and resilience of the reinforced concrete structures under various loads, including seismic, dynamic, impact of temporary works related to the construction sequence and environmental factors.
  • Collaborate with detailing team including drafting team, BIM Coordinator and other designer engineers as well as the technical direction team to ensure coordination and integration of design requirements.
  • Conduct calculations and structural assessments of design changes to determine the impact on the reinforced concrete structures and propose necessary design modifications.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation for the reinforced concrete structures.
  • Conduct structural assessments, and evaluations during construction and provide technical support as needed.
  • Work closely with construction contractors and site teams to resolve any structural issues or challenges during the construction phase.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and draftsmen involved in the structural design and detailing process.
  • Collaborate with the client, construction team and the principal designer as well as regulatory bodies and authorities to ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations and requirements.
  • Produce designs following CDM regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, independent working, presenting, and influencing skills.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices in nuclear structural engineering.

Profile

With a background of working within the nuclear industry or another highly heavy industry sector, you’ll have an established career in Civil Structural Engineering, with a Masters in Civil engineering or equivalent relevant subject.

In addition, you will also have the following:

  • Experience in Structural Civil Work, Civil Design, RC detailing, steel structures with ETT-C or Eurocodes or other relevant codes.
  • Proven experience working on the design and analysis of reinforced concrete structures for nuclear power plants, specifically with European Pressurized Reactors (EPR).
  • Sound knowledge of nuclear safety principles, regulations, and standards governing the design and construction of nuclear power plant structures.
  • Proficiency in using structural analysis software, such as ANSYS, SAP2000, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis Finite Element software, such as ANSYS APDL, Robot or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of seismic analysis and design principles for nuclear structures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in the design and construction of reinforced concrete structures in a nuclear or high-risk industry is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and quality control procedures related to nuclear structures.
  • Professional licensure or chartered status in Structural Engineering is advantageous.
  • Experience with on-site design support: working with contractors on site to deliver the implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Experience of 3D BIM modelling such as TEKLA, Navisworks will be a plus.

 

Note: Given the nature of the work, role holders may be required to undergo Basic Security Clearance (BPSS).
