About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer. The ideal candidate must possess railway knowledge, with experience in both single and multidisciplinary projects related to traction power, earthing and bonding and track plant and equipment.
This role may also include working on projects internationally for Egis, including travel within the UK and Ireland. The role can be based in our London or Birmingham office on a hybrid basis.

Duties & responsibilities
As a design engineer, responsibilities include developing electrical fixed plant designs, calculations, reports, specifications, schematic, and layout drawings for railway projects. The candidate must ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client specifications, implementing quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy, reliability, and safety of electrical designs.
Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and engineering managers is crucial for integrating electrical systems with other railway infrastructure elements. This includes but is not limited to track systems, signalling systems, telecommunication networks, and civil engineering. The candidate will also be involved in integrating new electrical designs with existing or modified railway systems.
Collaborate, converse, and actively participate in meetings with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address design-related challenges and provide technical support to junior engineers.
The candidate should be capable of independently resolving routine design issues and applying knowledge/training to complex tasks with minimal supervision. Efficiently managing work and coordinating electrical design aspects of railway projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints are essential.
This position is suitable for a Design Engineer currently working in the railway industry or a Project/ construction Engineer seeking to transition from assurance/ construction to design.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Attributes
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or a number of years of design, construction or assurance experience in railway electrical engineering.
Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
Preferred: Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (MicroStation or AutoCAD).
Preferred: Proficiency in electrical software for electrical design (Amtech (Trimble), Etap, CYMCAP, CDEGS).
Preferred:
Proficiency in AC and DC traction systems, previous experience as a design CEM/CRE
Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
